City adventure

Decided to go on hiatus for a bit and get art into me instead of me making it. Need a healthy balance right? Pablo Picasso’s collection is currently in Brisbane’s GoMA (Gallery of Modern Art). Any excuse to get to the city is a good one:

Picasso-exhibit

Pablo Picasso’s Exhibit, GoMA Entrance

installed-animals

I gatecrashed the kids’ section and installed some additional animals. Yeah additional. I managed to sneak some INTO the actual exhibition, but couldn’t get a picture because photography was not allowed.

toot

Some artholes installed some crazy megaphones all over the place, which kids yelled through for fun.

whale-hall

Hanging out with whales on the museum ceiling was pretty ultra fun too! Yeeeeeeeeee!

anti-scientologists-3

A gang of anti-Scientologist protesters mobbed me with pamphlets.

post-office

Hung out at the super big and fancy city post office to get a parcel ready for someone special.

singing-man

This charming homeless man and his dog sang me a song!

emo-kids

Saw some happy sad apathetic emos kids.

spiderman-2

Spiderman (or some guy) was cleaning really high up windows and drawing crowds.

street-performer

The racist street performer was dueling with the street painter to draw bigger crowds.

juice-maker-2

A crazy fruit juicing device was being built right in the middle of the mall. Wish I stayed to see it work!

THE-saxaphone-man

Oh Lis! Remember that smooth saxophone guy playing when you called? This is HIM. He always draws flocks of ladies.

installed-frog-2

I couldn’t take a train ride home without installing another animal, so I added a frog/toad.

It was such a crazy day, mostly because I manged to get involved with everything I saw somehow. There was even some neat old lady who was asking me what I was up to and how she’d ‘have a perve’ at the anti-scientologists because she likes a good laugh. Dang, just wish I could have taken a bunch of friends. Weird things always happen when I’m out by myself!

Low tech art

July 11, 2008

bear
Lately I realised that I haven’t really touched many traditional mediums for finishing art. I’m good with a pencil, but that’s about as far as my traditional art polishing skills reach. I think the last time I ever painted anything was in the first year of highschool, with the rest being completely digital work for art electives. I figured it could be nice to be able to send something I made with my own hands to people that are important to me, so now begins some long needed exploration into more traditional mediums.

Been playing with gouache, acrylics and water colours which are starting to get really fun! If you are into the whole traditional scene, got any recommendations? It’s always fun to make new art with different tools!

Face book creatures

I designed a new batch of characters for Brad Dwyer’s Facebook application. Always a fun little challenge to roll out some fun stylised designs that will be spread around the web!

The Art of Bearskin

June 17, 2008

Finally done with the book. We are just ordering pages into something logical tommorow, but it’s turned out great! With the number of requests on flickr/email, I’ll probably compile an e-book, and get some prints of the book (or requested pages compiled) out to neat people who’d want them (yeah you too Lis).

If there’s any vector pieces by myself that you’d like to see as wallpapers or something else fun, don’t be afraid to ask! In the meantime, check out the flickr set.
