Horton hears a Who

I loved this movie a lot.  A great Dr.Suess story of an elephant(horton) who finds an endangered world on a speck of dust. Blue sky has been popping out poop in the past , but this film had an amazing visual quality that made it unique. One noteable feature of the style is the amazing fur treatment on a large quantity of the characters. All the materials look so real and lickable, making every object a treat to enjoy.

Cloverfield

I had a really early finish at the studio today, so I was lucky enough to jump over to the premiere of Cloverfield. I know a bunch of critics are going to hate it, but I bet a good few will be partial to it. Personally, I think most of J J Abrams’ stuff sucks and just gets hyped up through his silly links between his productions, and media leaks. Cloverfield was different for me though. The theatricals just to kick start the movie was clever. Lights go out, and then the projector looks to be malfunctioning. Most of the dumb teens sitting in the cinema begin groaning, and then a message from the CIA pops up (making them feel stupid for believing that a digital projector would actually pop out an analogue, static break-up) It simply cuts to the start of the tape and you see that it’s entirely shot through hand-helds, in a home movie format. As a result, the perspective of the film is entirely in first person.

American Gangster

If film starts with a cop being doused with petrol and lit alive, you can probably tell it’s not going to be a happy film! American Gangster, directed by Ridley Scott has got to be the best Drama that I’ve seen in a good 6 months. Its golden globe association is thoroughly deserved. Instead of the usual good cop vs bad cop vs criminal story, it is centered around true events linked to the corruption of the law enforcement agencies in the 1960’s.
