Where the light is

where-the-light-is

John Mayer has produced something magic with his newest release: Where the light is (live in Los Angeles). I’ve always been a fan of his smooth guitar style, and it really comes out in his live reproduction of his beautiful pieces from continuum and a few other classics. I really love his cover of Free Fallin’ (Acoustic). The whole album (2 parts) has a really smooth tone with a blend of really clean acoustic tracks and some face melting solos and preludes. I’ll be sure to get a copy of the live dvd today.

I love this one a lot, and really look forward to his next studio album. So jealous of anyone who gets to hit his tours and catch him live. He’s an amazing artist, and I dig that he gives back to his listeners by blogging and keeping in touch.

Viva la Vida

June 21, 2008

For some reason, after hearing it on release day I didn’t love it. It seemed so different from the rest of the albums, but after listening through the whole album, it really soothing and has a vibe to it. I don’t know what it is, but it’s a nice mellow album to chill out and work to. It feels a lot more mechanical than the other more acoustically produced albums, but it’s still a nice change.  Obviously not their greatest, but I’m loving Violet HIll and Viva la Vida a lot. Parachutes is still one of my favs. If you are not a Coldplay fan you probably won’t love it, but if you are it’ll probably grow on you. Give it a chance! Anyone else diggin’ it (or hating)?
