Viva la Vida
For some reason, after hearing it on release day I didn’t love it. It seemed so different from the rest of the albums, but after listening through the whole album, it really soothing and has a vibe to it. I don’t know what it is, but it’s a nice mellow album to chill out and work to. It feels a lot more mechanical than the other more acoustically produced albums, but it’s still a nice change. Obviously not their greatest, but I’m loving Violet HIll and Viva la Vida a lot. Parachutes is still one of my favs. If you are not a Coldplay fan you probably won’t love it, but if you are it’ll probably grow on you. Give it a chance! Anyone else diggin’ it (or hating)?

I’m not a Coldplay fan, but I love the fact that they’ve moved away from relying on a standard rock drumset for percussion.
Totally agree that it’s a great album to work to! I listened to it when I first got it and thought, hmm - It’s okay, but I don’t see myself listening to it too often.
But then I had it on while I was working and it really did help me get stuck into what I was doing. I need to find more albums like this to work to.
I’m unsure where I stand with Coldplay, I used to hate them, then I loved them. Then I went off them with x+y. But this is totally different, and I love it.
I’m a huge Coldplay fan, and like you said, it’s that different to their other work that I was really apprehensive at first.
I work to it and it’s really chill out and relaxing. Took a couple of listens before I really warmed to it, but Parachutes is still categorically amazing and easily their best.
i’m listening to it riiiiiiight now. my favs are “Viva la Vida”, “Violet Hill”, “Strawberry Swing”, “Lost!” & “Death and all his friends”. i guess that is most of the album…. mostly.
ps i miss you. stupid time zones.
@Ben
I agree. It was nice to see a new direction in the “rhythm section” as Chris likes to refer to it as. I guess percussion sounds too artsy fartsy
@Liam
Coldplay has really surprised me throughout the years. I think the reason they do seem to swing in and out is the fact that they write things that they love. As a result I guess some things don’t click, but some just work so well that you forgive the older stuff with the latter!
@Harry
Yeah for sure! I think it’s a really nice album to just relax and chill out to. It works so well as a wholesome package. It’s really great, but definitely not as amazing as Parachutes.
@Lis
Strawberry Swing and Lovers in Japan are getting really catchy.
And yes, timezones are such jerks. I miss you and your fun already.
