Horton hears a Who

I loved this movie a lot.  A great Dr.Suess story of an elephant(horton) who finds an endangered world on a speck of dust. Blue sky has been popping out poop in the past , but this film had an amazing visual quality that made it unique. One noteable feature of the style is the amazing fur treatment on a large quantity of the characters. All the materials look so real and lickable, making every object a treat to enjoy.

Of course, there are a bunch of things which made it corny, like the loser emo character Jojo, but I guess it can be overlooked considering how fun it was. Steve Carrell and Jim Carrey leading the voice cast was so ridiculously rich and full of character, and it can really be appreciated through acting of their relevant characters (obviously inspired by their wild personalities). When Andrew, Tim and I saw it on Sunday, we couldn’t suppress our laughter when the gang of menacing purple apes, and the creepy, groaning, yellow furball performed the most silly things imaginable.

There was such an array of fun characters which kept the world almost infinitely large in character variety. Most shots were beautifully crafted pieces of fuzzy, cuddly fun (bar a few doozies), and it just felt so great to be able to hit a movie that was perfectly innocent, and still get a bunch of laughs out of it.

Easily a new rival to Pixar’s soon to be released Wall-e. Go watch it and grab some clean laughs!

P.S. Watch out for the Ice Age 3 teaser!

Discussion:

  1. I usually don’t watch animated movies. But the cast is tempting me to see it. Idk why I never watch these things. I love animation but I have pretty much only seen Toy Story, the Incredibles, and Ice Age.

  7. Dr. Seuss is classic; after seeing Horton Hears a Who i was reminded how much good stuff that guy can pack into a simple storyline… they didn’t add much to the original story either except for the usual Jim Carreyisms.
